César gives an enthusiastic handful of knocks on the door. It's definitely César. That was a few notes from a recognizable song.

After a moment or three, Johnny answers the door, wearing a robe stolen from Calgona and a pair of boxers and nothing else, his hair lightly mussed. Perhaps he'd been napping. "Hello, handsome."

Watson comes back to the room in high spirits, and when he lets himself in to find Johnny only, he crosses the room swiftly to kiss him warmly in greeting before going to take off his jacket and shoes.

"Good evening, my dear. Is it just the two of us tonight?"

It's been a little while since that happened, maybe.

Watson is in high spirits. Johnny is low with his spirits.

Not in a bad way. He's sitting on the floor of the room with the bottles he's stolen from the various bars and the bartending guide he received, dog-earing pages for recipes he a.) has the ingredients for and b.) wants to try. He's wearing a pair of black slacks and one of his white dress shirts, but the shirt's unbuttoned, and his hair is slightly mussed.

"Seems so. Welcome home, love." He looks up at Watson warmly, as he springs up to greet his man.

June 1st, Action: Agoraphobia talk

César cannot delay this any longer. The signs up for the next 'excursion' are underway. Now or never.

César's hair is dry from his shower, and he's got pants on when he finally forces his nerve. He walks out of the bathroom and looks over to Johnny. There's mild worry on his face, and his voice is slightly gentled.

"I've been meaning to talk to you about something since the last excursion started, but... there never seemed to be a good time."

Yes. That look of knowing César had before.

"Ah." That's not a surprised sound, quiet and resigned and all too self-aware. Yes, let's dissect Johnny's past and lay out his flaws.

Well, this is as good a time as any.

Johnny sits up pretzel-style on the bed, almost as if he's bracing himself.

César is reading on the bed of room 102 next to Johnny. He hasn't changed the page for a while. Perhaps he's even a bit red?

"What's your opinion on pegging?" His voice is far more innocent than the question.

“Pegging? I fear you may need to define the term for me.” He gets the feeling it’s the word and not the subject itself he’s unfamiliar with. He also gets the feeling this is going to be an interesting conversation...

Text, forward-dated to the evening after the campers get back

[So. They all made it back unharmed. Rich was fine, and Watson was fine, as well as the other number of campers who had signed up for the strange excursion. Everyone had been confused, but mostly relieved, and Rich had been happy to check in with those who had come to make sure he was alright. César had fussed a bit, but had eventually backed off, and Rich had been left alone to rest and recover and... oddly, not see Johnny.

He was kind of expecting a visit, honestly. A lecture, most likely. Leaving a note like that wasn't exactly the kindest way to break the news, even if Rich had at least done that much. He probably also admitted to more than he should have in that note, and was expecting some pressing questions under the guise of concern.

But none of that comes. It's... more unsettling than relieving, and Rich can't just let this go without following up. It'd just be a dick move not to say something. Maybe Johnny was just busy?]

[What is this shit? First he pulls away so completely as to leave the ship and go camping, and then...this? Johnny doesn't know what to make of any of this. So he responds at an elevated level of formality, like one might with a distant acquaintance.]

I'm glad to know you weren't harmed. Were your burns exacerbated by the level of activity on the excursion? Watson had taught us how to take care of them, with the intent that we'd be of aid to you over the course of the week.

I am well. Friday tried to replicate the camping experience on the ship, to mixed results. There were a few new arrivals while you were gone, some more pleasant than others.

I hope the excursion gave you the sense of independence you felt you needed. I will endeavor not to express an overabundance of concern toward you in the future, to avoid your discomfort.

Action: July, a day after talking to Watson [nsfw-adjacent]

César had promised Watson that he would talk to Johnny. Almost exactly 24 hours later and on Room 102's nightstand, his phone vibrates twice and the words Reminder: Tell Johnny pop on the screen.

He looks up from modeling on his tablet to read it. With a breath in followed by a sigh, César turns back to the tablet, saves his work, and sets the tablet beside his phone. César rubs his hands over his face, his expression serious and mildly guilty as he leans back into the couch.

"Do you have spare focus to talk about something serious and probably upsetting right now, bonito? It can wait until later, don't worry." César knows it'll be upsetting, now, so he doesn't just want to steamroll Johnny's mood without permission.

"...did you set a reminder to talk about something serious and probably upsetting with me?" The tone of his voice makes the mild 'what the fuck, César' clear, but there's also amusement there. Because yeah, that's just like his boyfriend, to schedule something like this.

Johnny's lounging on the bed with a book, but that gets closed and some nearby detritus of shipboard life gets stuck in it as a bookmark. Perhaps it's a dress sock, perhaps it's a bingo card, perhaps it's just a scrap of paper.

8/1: Johnny's Birthday

Birthday wishes and kisses have been given. It isn't until they're alone in Room 102 that César pulls a thin box out of his pocket and holds it out to Johnny. César's smile is a bit nervous, but also excited. He's been waiting a while to give what's inside to Johnny.

"Happy birthday. I'll have to explain what I made after you open it." An innocent shrug. "It's more of a modern idea, but I tried to make it look fancy to go with your clothes."

Johnny quietly opens the box, a quizzical expression on his face when he sees the contents. That is definitely not an object that exists in his time, and knowing César's mad scientist tendencies, he hesitates rather than beginning to explore it, for fear poking the wrong part might make it do something big and loud and flashy.

"It's lovely, but I have no clue what it is."

"Good morning, love. Happy birthday."

Watson casually puts an arm around Johnny's waist as he leans in for a kiss, but there's some nervousness there which he's desperately trying to ignore. "I have something for you. It isn't much, but I did my best."

The package he presses forward into Johnny's hands, wrapped in a bit of paper, contains a small collection of handkerchiefs: some are silk, some are linen, all have been cut out of various items of clothing from Tommy Bahama and neatly hemmed with the sort of stitch more typically used for sutures than for clothing.

"Oh, John." He opens the package and gasps with delight. "These are amazing. When did you make them? How have you been hiding them from me?"

He unfolds one of the silk ones and runs his hand over it gently, the look on his face bright. This was something he had hardly expected, but clearly was a labor of love. (He'll need to step up his own present-making plans...)

A series of very excited and familiar knocks at the door. When Johnny opens the door, he'll find a decent sized twig thrust into his hands. César smiles wide, his eyes bright.

"Gumbo Limbo! It's real! It's alive! And I can propagate it!"

Johnny blinks as he accepts the twig, twirling it in his fingers idly.

"Do you think John will be back soon?" Nervous energy, nervous voice.

The nervous voice catches Johnny's attention. He looks up from the book he's lying in bed reading, golden eyes raking over César. A reminder set, hm? A reminder set and nervous. Hm.

Two things one I have received a great deal of clothing that feels very luxurious and I need an expert eye on them two how quickly can you throw together a notice for people to come eat let us say a small car worth of fish. In a related story to the second I need something metal for a small cooking fire.
